ISSUE: Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is a problem in the Palmetto State, and across the nation. South Carolina records an average of more than 30,000 cases of intimate partner violence each year. My Sister’s House is a Lowcountry nonprofit which works with victims of domestic abuse. Ericka Plater, the organization’s interim CEO discussed the problem and the challenges that women dealing with domestic violence in their home face. She provided some suggestions on how someone can recognize domestic abuse and shared ideas on what an individual can do to help. My Sister’s House has a major fundraiser coming in October at the Gibbes Museum of Art in downtown Charleston. Plater provided details on the October 22nd Walk Through: A Fine Art Exhibit including how to get tickets to attend and how the money raised will benefit My Sister’s House.
