South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster proclaimed August Emergency Management Awareness Month for the second year in a row. As we are in hurricane season, much of the Lowcountry thinks this is storm related. Jessica Stumpf, President of the South Carolina Emergency Management Association reminds people that while storms are a big part of what they do, Emergency Management deals with different types of disasters, including shootings and major events. Stumpf spoke of the roles of Emergency Managers across the Palmetto State and the amount of collaboration and preparation that goes into being ready for things like college football games and natural disasters. She also provided information on the organization’s new app that is a checklist for being prepared.
