When the holidays are done, individuals need to know how to dispose of their Christmas tree. For anyone with a live tree, recycling is the best course of action. Christina Moskos is the Program Manager for Charleston County Environmental Management and broke down the procedure for Charleston County residents to recycle their live trees. Moskos also shared how recycling benefits the county and additionally spoke of the best ways to recycle cardboard boxes and packaging that may have accumulated as part of the Christmas holiday. As a review for the beginning of the New Year, Moskos provided basic information in terms of what should and shouldn’t be recycled, the best ways to recycle certain items and the 8 county locations residents can visit with items that can’t be left curbside.

The beginning of a New Year finds people making resolutions to exercise more, eat better and to get in shape. The non-profit Charleston Running Club hosts a number of races and events each year, including the first major race of the year, the annual Charlie Post Classic on Jan. 24. Pat Welch, the President of the Charleston Running Club shared information on the Charlie Post Classic, and the other runs that club hosts. He also provided details on the weekly and monthly activities of the club and how an individual could become a member. Welch, who is 77, shared his running journey, which started at age 60 and has included finishing 5 marathons. He suggested for those resolving a better 2026, make the club a consideration.
