Lowcountry Forever – James Island Yacht Club – May 3, 2026

GUEST: Mark Semken, JIYC King Mackerel Tournament Director and Zach Volousky, Pickle’s People
ISSUE: Children’s Health
Each summer for the last 56 years, the non-profit James Island Yacht Club has hosted their King Mackerel and Inshore Fishing Tournament, which benefits a local charity. This year’s event is on July 11th and will benefit Pickle’s People. One of the three tournament directors, Mark Semken, provided details on this year’s event, including sharing the difference between the two events that make up the tournament. Zach Volousky shared the story of his daughter Eliza Kate who was diagnosed with Leukemia. Out of that, and her ultimate journey to remission, the family started “Pickles People,” a non-profit that helps parents with a child being treated at the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. Zach discussed how Pickles People’s benefits from this year’s tournament and how the non-profit Yacht Club helps organizations throughout the Lowcountry.
