2021 MLK Youth Poetry Slam: Youth Speak Out
Video Submission Deadline: Monday, Jan. 11

The YWCA of Greater Charleston will again lead the celebration of the life and work of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. But, like most other events, the celebration will be different this year because of the ongoing pandemic.

The YWCA’s annual MLK Youth Poetry Slam: Youth Speak-Out will be held this year, but will be a virtual event. If you, or someone you know is a high school and/or college age poet, you’re invited to participate.

The 2021 MLK Theme is “Restore the Dream. Repair our World.” Your poem should be related to that theme, social justice, or Dr. King in general. Submissions should be no more than 3 minutes. Upload the video you record here.

The winner will be featured during the MLK Breakfast, which will also be a virtual event, on Jan. 19. The deadline to submit your entry is Monday, Jan. 11.
